THE ASSIGNMENT

  • Design a new visual identity for Nancy Hardcastle’s company ‘Stand Up Be Great’ (previously ‘nancyhardcastle.com’). The identity needed to appeal to  both individuals and organizations seeking professional speech coaching. Nancy has a very energetic and engaging personality, and she wanted that to be reflected in the visual identity.

  • Build a website designed for SEO optimization and intuitive service purchases. Nancy is an avid blogger, and making sure her posts are easily navigable was high on the priority list.

Creative direction by Ria Hardcastle

PROCESS

  • Ria began by meeting with Nancy several times to talk about her ideal client, marketing strategies, and design preferences. From there Ria created several mood boards as a way of discovering Nancy’s design taste.

  • After clearly establishing the target audience and visual style, Ria began to design potential logos for the brand. After a couple rounds of file exchanges and feedback, a logo was decided on.

  • From there Ria designed the Brand Manual to ensure the visual identity would remain consistent in all future uses. This manual includes: logo application rules, color pallet and application rules, primary and secondary font applications, textures and pattern application, social media mockups, stationary mockups, merchandise mockups, print and digital advertising mockups, and pin/blog thumbnail design and application rules.

  • Once the brand manual was approved, Ria began to work on the website. She began by listing all of the needed content and grouping it into the most logical pages. From there she built (to avoid redundancy)  wire frames and navigation maps on paper to create the most intuitive user experience. After settling on a layout, she began to design the site using Squarespace.

  • Once the first draft of the site was done, Nancy and Ria began to edit the site and run tests to ensure it functioned properly.

  • When all of the fine details were polished, the Stand Up Be Great website was made live and the new brand identity was announced!

INICIAL DRAFTS / PROPOSALS

FINAL PRODUCT: STANDUPBEGREAT.COM

With Ria’s help, I was able to hone in on what I wanted my brand to communicate and how I wanted my website to look. In spite of the short turn-around time I gave her, she was able to create a logo and site that I’m quite happy with. It does a great job of capturing my personalty and the spirit of my work, both of which were really important to me. She also gave me invaluable branding advice, which I believe helped me to clarify my content and the services I offer.
